The singer spoke about his choice to convert when he appeared on the BBC Four radio program Desert Island Discs yesterday (28 September). Stevens – real name Steven Demetre Georgiou – cited his 1976 near-death experience in Malibu as the event which ultimately led him to convert to Islam.
